Der hl. Kalliopios war einziger Sohn einer vornehmen Frau Theokla. Sie lebten ende des 4. Jahrhunderts in Persien. Während der Christenverfolgung wurde Kalliopios von Heiden zu einem Opferfest eingeladen. Diese Einladung hat er jedoch abgelehnt - was bedeutete, dass er ein Christ sei. Der Heilige stellte sich freiwillig, wurde gefoltert und - nach langen Qualen am Donnerstag der Karwoche gekreuzigt. Als man den Heiligen kreuzigen wollte, bat seine Mutter Theokleia, dass ihr Sohn mit dem Kopf nach unten gekreuzigt wird. Genau zur dritten Stunde am Karfreitag starb ihr Sohn, der hl. Kaliopios, am Kreuz. Als bald Theokleia den Leib ihres Sohnes bekam, preiste sie Christus und starb. Christen haben deshalb Theokla gemeinsam mit ihrem Sohn, den hl. Kalliopios, beigesetzt. Das geschah im Jahre 304.
