In Phrygien geboren, wurde der Heilige in seiner Jugend Mönch und wegen seines frommen Lebens wurde er zum Archimandrit (Vorsteher) aller Klöster zu Amassia (Kleinasien) gewählt. Im Jahre 552 wurde der hl. Euthymios Patriarchen von Konstantinopel, und somit Vorsitzender beim 5. Ökumenischen Konzil. Das fünfte ökumenische Konzil, fand in Konstantinopel, im Jahre 553 statt, sein Gedenktag ist am 7. August (25. Juli). Wegen Widerstand der vom Konzil verurteilten Irrlehre und den häretischen Ansichten des Kaisers Justinianos I., wurde der Heilige ins Exil nach Amassia verbannt. Erst im Jahre 577 konnte der Heilige aus 12jährigem Exil, zu seiner Herde zurückkehren. Er leitete die Kirche noch 4 Jahre, und starb im Jahre 582.
