Der heilige Martyrer Parthenios wurde in Mitilene geboren. Als frommer Geistlicher, wurde er zum Bischof von Chios geweiht. Im Jahre 1656 wurde der hl. Parthenios zum Patriarchen von Konstantinopel gewählt. Doch wegen falscher Beschuldigungen des Landesverrats, und weil er den muslimischen Glauben nicht annehmen wollte, wurde er von türkischen Machthabern verurteilt und erhängt. Das geschah im Jahre 1657 in Panakari, am Lazarus-Samstag (vor Palmsonntag).
