Victorinus war Bischof von Poetovio in Pannonien - dem späteren Pettau und heutigen Ptuj in Slowenien. Er beherrschte Griechisch - offenbar als Muttersprache - und die lateinische Sprache. Er verfasste Bibelkommentare und gilt als erster lateinischer Exeget, wobei er griechische Vorlagen benutzte, so Hippolyt von Rom und v.a. Origines, den er für die westliche Kirche erschloss. Zu seinen Vorbildern gehörten Papias von Hierapolis und Irenäus von Lyon.
