Der ehrw. Martyrer Petros, Bischof von Damaskus, lebte als Asket im 8. Jahrhundert. Er besaß nie ein Buch, konnte aber alles in seinem Gedächtnis speichern. Als Bischof predigte er so kraftvoll gegen den Islam, dass die Araber ihm die Zunge herausschnitten und ihn nach Arabien verbannen. Wundersamer Weise konnte er aber weiterhin predigen und bekehrte auch hier viele Menschen. Der hl. Petros schrieb Bücher über Spiritualität, die göttliche Gabe der vier Elemente und Auslegungen der Evangelien. Schließlich starb der ehrw. Petros als Martyrer, im Jahre 743.
