Der heilige Prophet Zacharias stammte aus dem Stamme Levi und gehört zur Zahl der "12 kleinen Propheten". Er wird "Sichelseher" genannt, wegen in seinem Buche beschriebenen Vision, in welcher er eine Sichelförmige Rolle sah (Zacharias, Kap. 5, 1-4). Das von ihm hinterlassene prophetische Buch besteht aus 14 Kapiteln und enthält eine ausführliche Weissagung über die letzten Tage des irdischen Lebens des Messias, über seinen Einzug in Jerusalem auf einem Esel (Kap. 9, 9), seinen Verrat für 30 Silberinge und die Bestimmung des Geldes (Kap. 11, 12-13), die Durchbohrung der Seite (Kap. 12, 10), die Zerstreuung und Flucht der Jünger aus dem Garten Gethsemane (Kap. 13, 7), die Verfinsterung der Sonne während des Kreuzleidens Christi (Kap. 14, 6-7). Der hl. Prophet Zacharias starb im Jahr 520 vor Christus.
