Der hl. Lukas wurde im Jahre 920 in Kastorio in Phokis in Griechenland geboren. Seine Vorfahren waren von der Insel Ägina vor den Überfällen der Araber nach Kastorio in Phokis geflohen. In jungen Jahren lebte er mit seinen Eltern. Nach dem Tode seines Vaters ging er heimlich ins Kloster und wurde Mönch. Er lebte in strengster Askese: er fastete streng und gab oft seine Kleidung den Armen, so dass er nackt nach Hause kam. Er wurde Mönch in Athen, und wanderte seitdem die Küste entlang und heilte viele Menschen. Schließlich ging der ehrw. Lukas ins Kloster auf dem Berg Stirion, wo er nach sieben Jahren starb (am 7. Februar 946).
