Der hl. Parthenios wurde in Melitopolis im 4. Jahrhundert in Melitopolis, in der Familie eines Diakons, geboren. Er war der ungebildete Sohn dieses Diakons. Von Beruf Fischer, gab er den Ertrag seiner Fänge an die Armen und behielt nur das Nötigste für sich; er war auch mit der Gabe der Kraft zur Heilung gesegnet, was Bischof Philip von Melitopolis bestätigte, und trieb Dämonen aus. Bischof Philip machte den hl. Parthenios schließlich zum Priester und ernannte ihn zum Bischof von Lampsakos (dem heutigen Lâpseki). Kaiser Konstantin der Große empfing ihn und beauftragte ihn, heidnische Tempel in Kirchen umzuwandeln, was er erfolgreich tat. Der Heilige starb friedlich und wurde begraben ebenda.
