David, Sohn des Kaisers Georg, war nicht einmal sechzehn Jahre alt, als ihm im Jahre 1089 der Vater die Krone aufsetzte. Ihm gelang es, Feinde aus dem Land zu verjagen und die zerstörten Kirchen und Klöster wieder aufzubauen. Er förderte die kulturellen Einrichtungen und berief Synode zur Festigung der Disziplin in Klerus und im Volk ein.
