Der hl. Isydor war in Brandenburg a/H. geboren, slawischer (wendischer) Abstammung. Erzogen im römisch-katholischen Glauben, kam er Mitte des 15. Jahrhunderts nach Russland, und nahm sein Aufenthalt in der Stadt Rostow. Dort übernahm er die Askese der "Einfältigkeit um Christi Willen". Er lebte in einer kleinen, von ihm selbst aus Ästen erbauten Hütte. Am Tage ging er in der Stadt seiner gottseligen Berufung nach, die Nächte verbrachte er im Gebet. Schon während seines irdischen Lebens wurde er von Gott mit der Gnade der Wunder gewürdigt. Er wurde "Twerdislow" ("Wahres Wort") genannt, weil seine Vorhersagen in Erfüllung gingen. Er starb im Jahre 1474.
