Die hll. Brüder Kosmas und Damianos wurden in Rom geboren, welche nach dem Abschluss ihres Studiums als Ärzte den Kranken und Armen uneigennützig halfen. Sie heilten unter anderen sogar den Kaiser Karinos selbst. Er aber befahl die Heilige zu verfolgen, und den Qualen zu übergeben. Im Jahre 284 wurden die Heiligen gesteinigt, von ihrem früheren Lehrer, aus Neid über ihrer ärztlichen Erfolge.
