Der hl. Iakinphos wurde in Kässaria (in Kapadokien) geboren. An einem heidnischen Festtag weigerte er sich, von dem Götzenopfer zu essen. Dazu bekannte er sich offen seinen Glauben an Christus. Deshalb wurde er ins Gefängnis gebracht und aufgefordert, das Fleisch des Götzenopfers zu essen. Er weigerte sich, und musste nach 38 Tagen durch Hunger sterben. Dies geschah zur Zeit des Kaisers Trajan, im Jahre 108.
