Der hl. Märtyrer Tryphon wurde um 232 in Samosata in Phrygien geboren. Er war begabt mit der Gnade, alle Krankheiten zu heilen. Als er 17 Jahre alt war, heilte er auch König Gordians (238-244) Tochter von einem Dämon. Damit wurden viele zum Christentum bekehrt. Bald darauf, in der Regierungszeit von Kaiser Decius (249-251), wurde der hl. Tryphon beim Präfekten Aquilinus in Nicäa als Christ denunziert, schwer gefoltert und enthauptet. Er starb als Märtyrer in Nikea, um das Jahr 251.
