Der Sohn des Boljarin Pribatz Greblanewitseh, wurde erzogen am Hofe des Königs Duschan. Im Jahre 1371 wurde er zum König von ganz Serbien ausgerufen. Er bemühte sich viel um die Wiederherstellung der in elenden Zustand geratener Landesteile, er sorgte für die geistige Hebung des Volkes durch den Bau von Kirchen; bekannt ist das 1380 gebaut Kloster Rawanitzi (Zaduschhina). In der Schlacht bei Kosowo, von den Türken verwundet, wurde er von ihnen gefangen genommen und auf Befehl des Sultans Bajaset am 15.Juni 1389 enthauptet.
