Er war Mönch, dann Abt des Theophanie- Klosters zu Rostov und wurde 1262 Bischof der Stadt. Als solcher nahm er 1274 am Konzil von Vladimir teil, erbaute mehrere Klöster und schlichtete den damals immer wieder aufkommenden Bruderkrieg der Fürsten. Er starb 1288.
