Der hl. Meletios Stratilates wurde in Galatien geboren. Wegen der Zerstörung von Götzentempel wurde er im Jahre 218 gehängt. Seine 1218 Gefährten, die Krieger, die ihm dabei halfen, und übrige Christen, wurden in Galatien unter Kaiser Antoninos (218-222) enthauptet.
