Der ehrwürdige Maxim der Bekenner wurde um 580 in Konstantinopel (heut. Istanbul, Türkei) geboren. Der ehrwürdige Maxim war der wichtigste Theologe seiner Zeit. Er wirkte zur Zeit des oströmischen Kaisers Konstans II., und verurteilte ihn wegen seiner Abweichung vom orthodoxen Glauben (im Sinne der Glaubenslehre des 4. Ökumenischen Konzil*).
