Aus Lampsakos in Mysien, im 13. Jahrhundert gebürtig, verließ er, 17 Jahre alt, heimlich das elterliche Haus und begab sich auf den Berg Gan, wo er als Mönch, unter Leitung eines in ganz Makedonien bekannten Einsiedlers, des Greises Markos, lebte. Nach dessen Tode besuchte er andere Einsiedler, bis er nach Konstantinopel kam. Von hier entfernte er sich, auf Weisung von Oben, auf den Berg Athos, wo er als Narr um Christi willen von Ort zu Ort zog, und sich Zelte aus Binsen und Kraut baute, welche er nach Gebrauch verbrannte, weshalb er den Namen "Kausokalybites" erhielt. Er starb 95 Jahre alt, am 25. Januar 1365 (nach anderer russ. Quelle 1354).
