Der Ehrwürdige Eustratios wurde in Tarsos geboren. Im Alter von 20 Jahren entfernte er sich heimlich aus dem väterlichen Hause zum Abgarischen Kloster Prussa (Brussa) in Bithynien, wo er ein streng asketisches Leben führte. Unter Leo dem Armenier lebte er in freiwilliger Verbannung und wurde nach dessen Tod der Vorsteher dieses Klosters. Er starb im Jahre 821, im Alter von 95 Jahren.
