Der hl. Märtyrer Polyeuktos war Offizier zur Zeit des Kaisers Decius (249-251). Zusammen mit seinem Freund Nearchos bekannte er sich, trotz des Verbotes und gegen den Rat seines Stiefvaters Felox und seiner Frau, öffentlich zu seinen christlichen Glauben. Deshalb wurde er mit dem Schwert hingerichtet, unter Kaiser Valerian (253-259) im Jahre 259 in Melitine, dem heutigen Malataya.
