Der hl. Gordios wurde in Cäsarea im III. Jahrhundert geboren. Der Überlieferung nach war er römischer Offizier in Israel.Nach dem Erlebnis von Verfolgungen und Hinrichtungen der Christen, hat er seinen Dienst quittiert und am Berg Sinai als Einsiedler gelebte. Im Jahre 320 kehrte er in die Stadt zurück, kritisierte öffentlich den heidnischen Kult, bekannte sich als Christ, wurde bedroht und, als er standfest blieb, enthauptet. Das geschah im 4. Jahrhundert.
