Der hl. Eustafij wurde in Syda, in Pamphylien, geboren. Er war zuerst Bischof von Beria in Syrien und von dort zu Patriarchen von Antiochien erwählt. Er verteidigte die Orthodoxie am I. Ökumenischen Konzil in Nikea und widerlegte die Irrlehre des Arios, wodurch er den Hass derselben sich zuzog. Infolge der Verleumdungen der Arianer wurde er aus seinem Patriarchenamt vertrieben und nach Thrakien verbannt. Dort sollte er auch sterben, im Jahre 360.
