Der hl. Prophet Nahum war einer der 12 kleinen Propheten und stammte aus dem Ort Elkosch in Galiläa (in Israel), aus dem Stamm Simeon. Er wirkte unter zwei Könige von Israel - Hiskias und Manase (um 700 vor Christus) - und hinterließ ein Buch, in welchem vornehmlich die vollständige Verwüstung und Zerstörung von Ninewi verkündet wird.
