Der Ehrwürdige Jakob war Schüler des ehrwürdigen Maron (Gedenktag: 14. Dezember) und Zeitgenosse des ehrwürdigen Simeon Styten (Gedenktag: 1. September) und des ehrwürdigen Baradatos (Gedenktag: 22. Februar). Der hl. Jakob lebte als Einsiedler in Syrien, 30 Meilen von Stadt Kyros. Kaiser Leo schätzte seine Meinung sehr und befragte ihn über das 4. Ökumenische Konzil (von Chalzedon) und über die Theologie von Timoteus Äluros. Der Heilige wirkte auch Wunder: durch die Kraft seines Segens wurde hitziges Fiber geheilt. Er starb nach 457.
