Simeon, Beamter am Hof mit guten Beziehungen zu den Kaiser, war Bearbeiter und Verfasser von Heiligenlegenden; er sammelte 146 Lebensgeschichten der Heiligen und ordnete sie, beginnend mit dem 1. September, für das Kirchenjahr. Dieses "Menologion" bildete bald schon zusammen mit Homilien für die Herren- und Marien-Feste die Grundlage für die liturgischen Lesungen der Orthodoxen Kirche. Ob Simeon auch Autor der ihm gelegntlich zugeschriebenen Weltchronik, der "Logothetenchronik", war, ist umstritten. Gegen Ende seines Lebens trat er wohl in ein Kloster ein.
