格里哥利出生于亚美尼亚。他是圣西奈山下的法拉尼特修道院院长。当有福的阿纳斯塔西被流放之后，在违背意愿的情况下，格里哥利被选为安提约希亚的牧首。有福的改为索弗若尼牧首在《灵性草地》这本书中也非常崇敬格里哥利。格里哥利对罪人表现出了特别的同情。格里哥利于公元593年去世。
