在邪恶的波斯王萨波尔在位期间，西麦翁同他的两个长老奥乌德尔和阿纳尼亚斯为基督的缘故同遭折磨。皇帝的太监乌斯塔赞早先否认了基督，但后来在圣西麦翁的训斥下受到了感动，在皇帝面前再次表白了自己的正确信仰。另外其他一千多名基督徒也同西麦翁一起被带到刑场。西麦翁希望自己最后一个被斩首，这样能够鼓励其他基督徒坚持到底，由此他一直溜在队伍的最后面，因此，没有一个基督徒因为害怕死亡而动摇。当长老阿纳尼亚斯将他的头放在断头台上时，他的全身不禁颤抖起来。秘密地隐藏了基督徒身份的皇帝朝中的文官福斯克开始鼓励阿纳尼亚斯说：“长老，不要害怕，闭上你的眼睛，勇敢一些，你将会看到神圣的光。”在福斯克说这些话时，他被认出了是一个基督徒，于是被带到皇帝前遭到指控。在经过长时间的折磨之后，福斯克同他的女儿阿斯凯特利亚一同被处死。之后，圣西麦翁看到他的信众一一前往了天国，于是最后一个被斩首。第二年的大星期五，皇帝的爱臣阿扎特（乌斯塔赞）同其他一千多名信徒为基督而殉道。之后皇帝为屠杀自己的太监而感到懊悔，于是停止了对基督徒的杀戮。这些基督徒于公元341年和公元344年为基督而荣耀殉道。
