起初，瓦西里生活在树林中，没有居所。有人抓住了他，并问他：“你是谁？”他回答说：“我是生活在地球上的一个人。”这些人对他产生了怀疑，认为他是一个间谍，并对他施以酷刑。最后，他得以在君士坦丁堡自由生活了多年的时间。瓦西里洞察人的秘密，感悟未来，并行了很多奇迹。他的女仆是年老的德奥多拉。当德奥多拉去世时，曾向瓦西里的门徒格里哥利显现，向他揭示了每个灵魂所必经的审判的20个关口。公元944年3月25日，圣瓦西里平安地离世，得以进入了天国之家。在瓦西里去世后，他曾经在荣耀之中向君士坦丁堡的众人显现。
