匝哈利亚是12位小先知中的第11个，他同盎盖一同说服所罗巴伯王子重建耶路撒冷圣殿。他预言了基督进入耶路撒冷的盛大场景：“骑驹，是驴的驹子”（匝哈里亚书／亚／匝9：9）。他也预言了犹大为30块钱而出卖了耶稣基督：“于是，他们给了30块钱，作为工价”（匝哈里亚书／亚／匝11：12）。他还预言了耶稣的门徒在他受难的时候如何离弃了他：“击打牧人，羊就分散”（匝哈里亚书／亚／匝13：7）。（*）先知匝哈利亚被称为“镰刀见证人”，因为他曾经见过一个异象：一把镰刀从天上伸下来，将一切的不正义都割除了，特别是那些盗贼和亵渎上帝之名的人。匝哈利亚于公元前520 年离世，当时是大流士·海斯台波斯在的位末期。
