斯特梵是尼色族人，出生于祖帕村的一个贫困家庭，父亲拉多耶和母亲扎西玛都是虔诚的基督徒。据记载，起初，斯特梵在摩拉卡修道院修行，并成为这个修道院的院长。后来，土耳其人将斯特梵驱逐出摩拉卡，由此斯特梵在土尔曼的拉瓦奇安居下来，也就是今天的切雷什特一带。后来，斯特梵隐藏在皮佩利的一个山洞中，期间一生劳作，过着讨主喜悦的生活，直到去世为止。斯特梵于公元1697年5月20日平安离世。他的圣髑时至今日毅然存放在那里，并经常创造奇迹，基督拣选的仆人受到了人们的赞美。
