戴克里先在位期间，阿斯克拉斯在埃及的安提诺镇遭受折磨。他遭受了鞭打、割刮和烛火烧烤，但是他坚定不移地保守信仰，直到最后。当刽子手阿里安正欲乘船渡尼罗河时，在阿斯克拉斯的祷告之下使船停留在河的中间不能动，直到阿里安写下他相信基督为唯一全能的上帝为止。但是后来阿里安将这个奇迹看成是阿斯克拉斯施行的把戏，他忘记了他所写的东西，仍然折磨上帝的圣人。最后，刽子手在阿斯克拉斯的颈部缀上石头，将他投到尼罗河中。第三天，基督徒在岸边发现了阿斯克拉斯的尸体，在他的颈部上绑着石头（因为殉道者在临终前曾告诉过他们此事），他们荣耀地将阿斯克拉斯埋葬，当时是公元287年。雷奥尼德斯也同他一起遭受了磨难。后来刽子手阿里安进行了忏悔，全心全意信奉基督，并公开在异教徒面前表白自己的信仰。异教徒也将阿里安杀死；这样，曾经是杀害基督徒的杀手也得到了为基督殉道的荣耀冠冕。
