伯里斯和格雷伯是伟大的沃拉蒂米尔王子的儿子，沃拉蒂米尔王子是俄罗斯人民的施浸者。直到沃拉蒂米尔接受浸礼之前，他拥有无数的妃子和孩子。伯里斯和格雷伯同出一母。在临终之前，沃拉蒂米尔将国土分给了他的儿子们，但是他的大儿子－基福王子斯维亚特伯尔克预想侵占伯里斯和格雷伯二兄弟的份额。于是他派人分头暗杀伯里斯和格雷伯二兄弟。二位兄弟对上帝非常虔诚，也都讨上帝的喜悦。他们面对死亡仍一心祷告上帝。他们的尸体保存完好没有腐烂，并散发出香味。伯里斯和格雷伯被安葬在维什格罗德，时至今日，他们的圣髑仍能够散发出异能，能够为人们医治各种各样的疾病和痛苦。
