当托玛斯在安提约希亚城为修道院办事时，托玛斯总是装疯卖傻，这都是为了基督的缘故。托玛斯当时为修道院寻求周济，一个名叫阿纳斯塔西的人不但没有进行施舍，而且还用拳头击打了托玛斯。托玛斯预言说：“从现在起，我不想从阿纳斯塔西那里收到任何施舍，阿纳斯塔西也不会给我任何东西。”一天之后，阿纳斯塔西死了，而托玛斯在返回修道院之前也死了。由此，托玛斯的预言实现了。圣托玛斯在靠近安提约希亚的达弗尼去世，当时正值牧首杜穆努斯管理教会期间（公元546－560年）。
