迪奥尼西是圣山阿托斯的圣约安（狄尼斯亚特）修道院的修建者。迪奥尼西出生于阿尔巴尼亚的克里扎。他的兄长德奥多西隐退到圣山阿托斯，不久之后，成为菲罗特乌修道院院长。当迪奥尼西长大成人之后来到了他的兄长所在的修道院，他的兄长为他举行了剪发礼使他也成了一名修士。出于神圣的启示，当德奥多西为修道院接受任务前往君士坦丁堡时，被按立为特雷比宗的都主教。一道奇妙的光每天晚上出现在迪奥尼西眼前，后来在出现这道光的地方迪奥尼西修建了圣先驱约安修道院。他明白了，这道光是来自天国的迹象，他应当在这个地方修建修道院，由此，迪奥尼西前往特雷比宗寻求他的兄长德奥多西以及皇帝阿列克修斯·科盟努斯的帮助。皇帝送给他钱物和修建修道院所需皇室批准的许可文件，目前这份文件仍在修道院中保存。迪奥尼西于公元1380年修建了圣先驱约安修道院。当海盗抢劫了修道院时，迪奥尼西再次来到特雷比宗，并在那里去世，享年72岁。狄尼斯亚特修道院至今保存完好。在这座修道院中有一幅诞神女圣像，名叫"赞美"，是皇帝阿列克修斯·科盟努斯送给迪奥尼西的。根据传统，由牧首塞尔吉写的诞神女弗坐词首次被诵读。
