尼基塔在修道院修行期间不服从于他的领导而离开了修道院，将自己关在一间屋室中。因为他的不顺从，上帝许可巨大的诱惑降于他的身上。一次，当尼基塔祷告时，魔鬼装作一个明亮的天使出现在他面前，并对他说：“不要再祷告了，而要读书，我会为你祷告！”尼基塔听从了，并停止了祷告，开始读书，但他只能阅读《旧约》，甚至不能打开《新约》，因为魔鬼的力量在阻止他。在魔鬼的帮助下，尼基塔只预言犯罪、盗窃、纵火以及其他魔鬼知道并参与的邪恶的事情。最后，基辅洞窟中的圣教父们明白了尼基塔屈从了魔鬼的诱惑，并开始为他向上帝祷告。尼基塔返回了修道院，明白了自己在遭受毁灭，并开始改邪归正。在经过漫长的忏悔和流泪之后，上帝宽恕了他，并赋予他施行奇迹的能力。尼基塔于公元1108年离世。
