帕弗罗属于便雅悯支派，属于大数。帕弗罗原名为扫罗，受较于加玛烈，加玛烈是法利赛人，是一个迫害基督徒的人。在前往大马士革的路上，主出现在扫罗的面前，由此，扫罗奇迹般地皈依了基督信仰。圣徒亚拿尼亚为扫罗施行了浸礼，取名为帕弗罗，并被列入伟大圣徒的行列之中。帕弗罗怀着一颗火热的心传播福音，他的足迹遍及阿拉伯和西班牙，不但向犹太人，而且也向外邦人传讲福音。由此，帕弗罗被称为外邦人的宗徒。他受到了极大的苦楚，同时具有超常的忍耐力，使人大为惊讶。帕弗罗日复一日、年复一年地传讲福音，时时刻刻都处在生死攸关的时刻。由于他昼夜都在为基督劳作和受苦；由于他在多个地方建立了教会；也由于他已经达到如此完美的一步，由此，他才可以这样说：“现在活着的，不再是我，乃是基督在我里面活着”（加／迦2 ：20 ）。帕弗罗在罗马被斩首时正是尼禄皇帝统治时期，同圣徒裴特若同一年代遇害。
