这两位慈善且荣耀的圣人不是血缘上的兄弟，但他们是属灵的兄弟。起初，基诺生活在亚历山大里亚，是一名医生。他用基督的大能和他医学方面的知识医治了很多病人。在明白了疾病主要源于罪之后，基诺总是教导病人通过忏悔和祷告来洁净灵魂中的罪，这样身体就能够恢复健康。当戴克里先开始迫害基督徒时，基诺隐退到了阿拉伯，成了一名修士。同在亚历山大里亚一样，基诺在阿拉伯也逐渐知名，由此，那里的人们也请求他的帮助。听说了有关基诺的事情后，当时驻埃德萨的罗马官员约安来到阿拉伯见他。他们会面之后，二人如同兄弟一般彼此相爱，并一同潜心修行。当时，一个名叫阿纳斯塔西亚的女基督徒同她的三个女儿在卡诺普斯城中被迫害者们严刑拷打。听到这之后，基诺和约安来到卡诺普斯，鼓励这位母亲和她的女儿们不要放弃信仰。听了他们的忠告后，阿纳斯塔西亚同女儿们忍受了各种酷刑，最终为基督殉道。阿纳斯塔西亚的三个女儿的名字是：15岁的德奥克提斯替；13岁的德奥多塔和11岁的艾弗多克息雅。之后，施刑手们逮捕了基诺和约安，在经过监禁和严刑拷打之后将他们斩首，时为公元311年。在这两位圣人在世时以及离世后曾经施行过无数奇迹。在皇帝阿尔卡蒂乌斯在位期间，这两位圣人的圣髑被迁移到罗马。在圣水和圣膏的仪式上都祈求这两位圣人的帮助，特别是那些饱受失眠之苦的人可以祈求他们。
