基里尔出生并受教育于莫斯科的贵族家庭。基里尔在西麦翁诺夫修道院接受剪发礼成为修士，在那里潜心修行，他的修行方式使其他的修士都颇为震惊。为了隐藏自己的美德，基里尔故意装疯卖傻。他本人同拉多内兹的圣塞尔吉进行过交谈，从中受益非浅。他被选为西麦翁诺夫修道院院长并非他的意愿。基里尔时刻向圣母祷告，希望圣母向他启示潜心修行生活的道路。一天晚上，他看到了一束非常亮的光，有声音说：“基里尔，离开这里，去白湖！”确实，他离开了修道院，同一名修士来到了白湖附近一个茂密的树林中开始了修行生活。随着时间的推移，这个旷野地区转变成了一个大的修道院。基里尔从上帝那里接受了丰盛的恩典，治愈疾病，并施行许多奇迹。基里尔于公元1429年90岁高龄之际去世，得以进入上帝的国度。
