黑马是70圣徒之一。圣徒帕弗罗在书信中曾提到过他的名字："又问亚逊其土、弗勒干、黑米、八罗巴、黑马，并与他们在一起的弟兄们安"（罗马书16：14）。黑马出生于希腊，但是在罗马长期居住。黑马是菲利普波利斯城的主教，最后成为基督的殉道者。根据天使的启示，黑马编纂了一本具有启发意义的书，名为《牧者》。黑马家境富有，但是由于他及其儿子们所犯下的罪过而落得一贫如洗。有一次，在黑马祷告时，一个身着白衣、手持拐杖的人出现在他面前。这人告诉黑马：他是劝告人悔改的天使，他被派遣同黑马在一起直至他生命的最后。天使给予黑马12条指示：
