蒂格里乌斯和艾弗特若彼分别是圣金口约安的辅祭和诵经士。当恶人将圣金口约安逐出君士坦丁堡时，圣索菲亚大教堂燃起了大火，火苗掉在了迫害圣金口约安的人的房屋。人们从中看到了上帝的手指，但是圣金口约安的敌人却将这场大火的起因归咎于圣金口约安的追随者。许多人由此而受到指控，其中就包括辅祭蒂格里乌斯和诵经士艾弗特若彼。君士坦丁堡市市长奥帕塔蒂乌斯是未经受洗的希腊人，邪恶无比，他开始对圣金口约安的追随者进行追查。蒂格里乌斯年轻时曾经是一家富有人的奴隶。获得自由之后，蒂格里乌斯全身心为教会服务，如同光一般闪亮。奥帕塔蒂乌斯将这个"温和、谦卑、慈善、友好"的人流放到了美索布达米亚，蒂格里乌斯在那里的监狱中死亡。艾弗特若彼纯洁、无辜、慈善，刽子手们用牛皮鞭子和藤条鞭打他，最后他被吊死。当基督徒们带走他的尸体进行埋葬时，人们听到了天使优美的歌声。
