卢奇安是罗马人，由于他出身贵族且富有和博学，由此名声显赫。一段时间内，卢奇安为圣徒裴特若的门徒。后来教宗克雷盟特派遣卢奇安同曾任过法官迪奥尼西一同前往高卢传讲福音，并事先按立他为主教。起初，卢奇安用巨大的热情在高卢地区传讲福音，后来到了比利时。当时，邪恶的皇帝多米蒂安开始对基督徒进行迫害，他从罗马派遣一帮人前往高卢寻找并逮捕基督传道者。起初，他们抓住了迪奥尼西，后来他们继续寻找卢奇安。士兵们得知卢奇安同他的两个助手－长老马克斯亚努斯和辅祭犹利安在比利时，于是他们在同一地点杀死了马克斯亚努斯和犹利安，在另一个地方将卢奇安杀死。在卢奇安遭到斩首之后，他那无生命的尸体突然从地上站起来，手捧着他的头颅（同圣迪奥尼西和圣约安·沃拉蒂米尔类似）走向他希望被安葬的地方。就在那个地方他倒下了，并在那里被埋葬。后来，在卢奇安的圣髑上面修建了一座教堂。
