菲罗索夫斯出生于亚力山大附近。在基督徒遭受迫害期间，在异端王子和法官面前，菲罗索夫斯依然坚守基督信仰，由此，他遭受了残忍的酷刑。在经过各种严刑拷打之后，他们将菲罗索夫斯放置在一张软床上，将他的四肢捆绑住，并弄来一个坏女人来引诱他。当菲罗索夫斯感觉到自己受到引诱而欲望高涨的时候，他用牙齿咬断了自己的舌头，连同血水一同吐到这个女人的脸上。由此，他的欲望消失了，这个女人感到非常害怕而逃之夭夭。菲罗索夫斯于公元252年被斩首，英年之际得以进入上帝永生的国度。（*）
