贝萨里昂出生于埃及，并在那里接受了教育。在年轻时期他就将自己全部献于灵性生活中，同时他"从不玷污自己在接受浸礼时所穿的属灵衣装。"他拜访了约旦的圣革拉息默，并从培琉喜阿姆的圣依西多尔那里学到了很多东西。他通过极端的斋戒和守夜来克制身体，但是在众人面前他尽可能地隐藏自己的苦行生活。有一次，他四十天之内站立祷告，期间没有吃饭，也没有睡觉。他一年四季只穿一套衣服。贝萨里昂拥有施行奇迹的恩典。他自己没有一个固定的住所，而是居住在山上和树林里，直到年迈为止。他治愈了很多病人，并施行了许多奇迹，受益于百姓，将荣耀归于上帝。贝萨里昂于公元466年平安离世。
