伊拉里雍是君士坦丁堡达尔马图斯修道院院长。他是德卡颇利的格里哥利的门徒，同时也是圣大伊拉里雍的追随者，伊拉里雍也取了他的名字。伊拉里雍在祷告中是强有力的，在苦行中表现出坚韧不拔和勇气。在亚美尼亚的莱翁皇帝以及其他皇帝在位期间进行圣像破坏运动期间，伊拉里雍因对圣像的敬拜而遭受了不少苦难。后来，莱翁皇帝被他自己的士兵杀死，地点就在他凌辱圣像的教堂之内，也在同一地点；就在那个教堂中，他将第一个圣像拿走。圣伊拉里雍后来从监狱中被释放，但仅仅是很短暂的一段时间。后来，伊拉里雍又遭受了迫害，被投入到监狱中，直到拥有正确信仰的德奥多拉皇后在位期间为止。伊拉里雍具有洞察力，他看到了上帝的天使将斯督迪修道院的圣德奥多若的灵魂带到了天堂。伊拉里雍一生讨主喜悦，于公元845年得以进入上帝的国度，享年70岁。
