萨维纳来自徐利亚的埃尔默玻利，也是当地的一名官员。当基督徒遭受迫害的时候，他跟随一些基督徒躲到山里，藏身于小屋中，并进行禁食祷告。一个乞丐带给他食物，萨维纳善待这个乞丐，但是这个乞丐却将他汇报给当局。如同犹大出卖耶稣一样，这个乞丐竟然为了两个金币出卖了自己的恩人。之后，萨维纳同其他6名基督徒同遭逮捕，被士兵绑上送交法庭。萨维纳吃尽了苦头，最后被仍到尼罗河中溺死，当年为公元287年。
