弥亥亚与先知伊利亚属同代人，他预言了暴君亚哈王在攻打亚述时阵亡（众王传三／列上22，史书补遗二／历下／编下18）。弥亥亚所作的预言都是口头形式的，没有付诸文字。另一个先知弥亥亚则预言了耶稣在伯利恒诞生：“伯利恒以法他阿、你在犹大诸城中为小，将来必有一位从你那里出来，在以色列中为我作掌权的。他的根源从亘古，从太初就有（弥亥亚书／弥／米5：2）”。他也是先知书当中弥亥亚书的作者。
