艾弗斯塔提出生于布迪姆，双亲都是敬畏上帝的人。少年之时，他就在扎塔接受剪发礼出家为修士。而后，他到了阿托斯圣山的希兰达尔修道院精进修行。最后，他成为希兰达尔修道院院长。他以修道院院长的身份被选为扎塔的主教。一段时间后，他又被选为塞尔维亚的总主教。艾弗斯塔提具有伟大的博爱之心，并用热情和爱牧养了基督的信众。艾弗斯塔提于1279年安息主怀。临死前，已是年纪老迈的艾弗斯塔提向主呼求说：“主啊！我将我的灵魂交在你手里。”艾弗斯塔提的圣髑被奉安于佩奇牧首区教堂的地下。
