艾弗斯塔提是正教伟大的热心者和捍卫者。在第一次普世大公会议上，他表现非凡，明智地、有条理地驳斥了阿里乌的教义。同其他圣神父一起，艾弗斯塔提无误地确认了耶稣基督为上帝之子，同父和圣灵平等，根据的是神圣的位格（属性）。在君士坦丁大帝去世之后，阿里乌又重新得势，开始大力压迫正教。圣艾弗斯塔提的总主教职务被罢免，并被流放到色雷斯和马其顿。艾弗斯塔提忍受了长期的磨难，最后于公元345年荣耀归主。
