阿尔悉普是70圣徒之一。圣徒帕弗罗在他的书信《致科罗西人书》与《致斐利蒙书》中都提到过阿尔悉普：“要对阿尔悉普说，务要谨慎，尽你从主所受的职分”（致科罗西人书／西／哥4：17），在《斐利蒙书》中，帕弗罗称呼阿尔悉普为他在战场上的战友：“与我们同当兵的阿尔悉普”（致斐利蒙书／门／费1：2）在哥罗西这个城市中，基督教会的中心是在斐利蒙的家中，在这里，基督徒们一起聚集进行祷告。帕弗罗在写给斐利蒙的信中也称呼这里为“在你家的教会”（致斐利蒙书／门／费1：2）。当时，圣徒们开始任命自己的门徒为主教，一些人有固定的地方，而另一些人则外出传讲福音，斐利蒙属于后者。斐利蒙的妻子阿斐雅在家中的教会中准备一切。异教徒根据传统习俗在举行敬拜阿特米丝神（月亮女神）的时候，哥罗西城所有的基督徒们都在斐利蒙的家中进行祷告。异教徒们得知这个消息后，闯进斐利蒙的家中，将所有的基督徒抓住，包括基督教会的领导人斐利蒙、阿斐雅和阿尔悉普。起初，他们遭受鞭打，后来他们被齐腰埋起来，并开始向他们投掷石块。这样，异教徒杀死了斐利蒙和阿斐雅，他们把奄奄一息的阿尔悉普从地洞中拉了出来，给孩子们戏弄。孩子们用刀捅他的身体。由此，这位战场上的士兵结束了他在世的生命。
