Свети Папа бил родом от Ликаонския град Ларанда. Той живял по време на управлението на император Максимиан. Заради изповядването на Христовата вяра бил предаден на мъчения в родния си град, след това - в Диокесария и накрая - в Селевкия Сирийска. Били го с пръчки, разкъсвали го с железни куки, като обули нозете му в железни обуща с гвоздеи отвътре, го принудили да извърви дълъг път. Мъченикът завършил земния си живот, завързан за дървен стълб.
